Congratulations to our Crossroads C5 Class of 2012!

Type:  Coverage
Crossroads for Kids is so proud of our 2012 graduates, who we celebrated at the C5 Teen Leadership Program graduation ceremony on Friday, May 18, at Faneuil Hall in Boston!

We welcomed friends, family, staff mentors and current program participants to the ceremony, which blended past, present and future. Our current teens performed a short piece illustrating the 5 Cs of our programming (Character Driven, Community Focused, Challenge Ready, College Bound and Committed to a Better Future) as well as the Cornerstone Code on which we base all of our curriculum. It was a true celebration of so many of our state’s best young men and women, and what they have accomplished as they’ve grown through the 5 Cs (and visit our Virtual College Wall to see where they're going next!).

We would like to give special thanks to Steve Ricciardi, United States Secret Service Agent-in-Charge and Crossroads Trustee, for inspiring our graduates with his commencement address, and for bestowing the President of the United States’ Volunteer Service Award on 8 of our community-focused teens (200+ hours: Olivia Umoren, Tamin Calloway; 100+ hours: Barry Santana, Bisiayo Fashemi, Nadia Chang, Pedro Sepulveda, Philip Douglas, Sam Silfa). In his closing, Steve told the Class of 2012 to “go forth and be the leaders of the future that our communities need- the leaders we all know that you’ve already become.” They are well on their way!

Additionally, this year we bestowed our First Annual C5 Alumni Achievement Award to an incredibly impressive and deserving young alumna, Kayla Dias. Read about her impressive accomplishments and watch her speech here!

Kayla’s themes of growth and reliance on a strong family were echoed as well in speeches from our staff speaker, Jolanda Atwater, and our co-class speakers, Bisi Fashemi and Olivia Umoren. Each of these ladies took the graduates and audience on a tour of the past 5 years from a different perspective, culminating in reflections on the Medallions for Change service trip they took together in April to cap their C5 experience. The each felt that the trip was the experience that marked their transition into being the young leaders Crossroads has always known they are. Check out a video of trip photos!

From everyone at Crossroads for Kids, congratulations to the C5 Medallion Class of 2012!
