Each summer, Crossroads for Kids seeks out and hires motivated, enthusiastic people who want to spend their summer making a life-changing impact on young people. This year, we are proud to announce our partnership with the White House Office of Social Innovation and the US Department of Labor on the Summer Jobs+ Initiative to bring employment opportunities to youth across the country.
At Crossroads, our programming is designed to provide at-risk youth with a supportive community and access to experiences and resources that help them discover self-confidence, graduate from high school, seek higher education and become members of the next generation of diverse young leaders. This aligns us perfectly wtih the mission of the Summer Jobs+ Initiative.
The White House is focused on this pressing need to employ our nation's youth. As pathways to careers, summer employment is critical to the success of young people, good for business, and important for our country. But today’s youth are struggling to get the work experience they need for the jobs of the future: last summer, the unemployment rate among youth ages 16-24 set a near record high, and only 21 out of 100 low-income teens had a job.
Here are Crossroads, we work to change those odds for the youth we serve. Each summer, you can find approximately 25% of our staff positions filled by our program alumni, young people who are dedicated to giving back to their communities and creating the same cycle of mentorship and achievement for the kids following in their footsteps.
